Hi,
Following many years working in the LPG industry, using my wealth of knowledge and experience I have now decided to venture forward and build my own price comparison site specifically for users of LPG, which can be found at http://www.lpgcompare.co.uk
There is no charge for the services offered, by sole aim to to give a free independant switching service, we will take your requirements to your local suppliers, and find the best deal available.
During my time, whilst working in the industry i learnt to really understand the frustration of customers having no one to turn to for advice, unless they were other suppliers promising the earth just to get your business.
Please check out the website for a no obligation quote.
Many Thanks
Also received a Calor letter today, 25th May, saying price rise would be 5.5p plus VAT on 1st June. Is the letter timed before a long weekend to ensure that there is no time to fill up my empty tank before the price rise. And does the tank telemetry that I had installed to “ensure my supply” really serve to maximise Calor profits?
I have written to Calor asking them to demonstate the rise in their costs. A 15% price hike in these restrained times is extraordinary.
The fine print on my contract says that I can terminate the agreement if a price rise of 3.5p per litre takes place. So I am now looking for the best price available in Sussex.
I also contacted the Dom BBC site but was disappointed that there are no links available (the programme suggested that there would be).
Try energas or extra fuel the latter will supply gas to people with there own tank and recomended engineers for maintanence. Energas is slightly cheaper.
Your site has opened my eyes. I live in a small Devon village. I use Calor and I think foolishly took them up on a two year deal with £100 cashback without first comparing prices with other LPG suppliers. I am locked in until Feb 2012, and their price is a staggering 48.9pence per litre. Compared with what I have read on here I am being robbed. Does anyone know of any method by which I can get them down and how much I should go for? I know I am locked in so this may be an inhibitor to them agreeing to anything, but any advice would be helpful!
WE ARE LOOKING TO INSTALL PGL GAS FOR HEATING IN A 2BED CABIN AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE, PLEASE E MAIL ME WITH DETAILS OF INSTALLATION & COSTS THANKS
We switched from Calor Gas in 2003 to oil on moving to our current home near Ross on Wye.Fortunately this was prior to signing any agreement or Calor would have charged for removal of the tank. We however use LPG for a gas hob and as an emergency back up have a gas fire in the lounge. We have 2x 47KG bottles and recently ran out. A flo gas supplier Bennets of Ross quoted £79.99 per bottle but we obtained them for £52 each bottle from another local supplier Whiteside Stores Ltd an agent for Countrywide. There seems to be a definate reluctance of either Flo gas or Calor to quote the price of 47KG LPG on their web sites. It pays to shop around despite what seems like hard work flo gas were charging nearly 54% more. The per litre cost was 87p against 56.6p.
Hi – I’ve recently bought a property on bulk LPG. The tank is BP, and when getting quotes for a new contract BP are telling me the content of the tank (85% full) they want back. The property has been empty for over 3 years, and the previous owners did a bunk, so BP never got paid. There was nothing mentioned about ‘stock of fuel’ in the inventory from the motgagees in posession when I bought it. I was under the impression if I stay with BP the fuel would be mine, or if I go elsewhere they will simply pump the old stock into the new tank – do BP have a leg to stand on to claim title to the gas? surely they should have took it back at some time in the last 3yrs if they didnt get paid for it. Any advice would be great. Thx
Hi, I’ve never heard of an LPG supplier actually take back the gas, I think they would find it a tricky operation but not impossible. Personally I’d call their bluff and say “fine take it back”, I would think you have a pretty good case.
I’m suprised they haven’t approached you with some kind of deal? When I cancelled my Calor contract two months later they turned up and happily filled up my tank, (lots of red faces at Calor!) They then tried to charge me and I told them to take it back! In the end they did a deal with my new supplier Countrywide.
Hi,having just signed up with calor for LPG do I have to stay with them for 2yrs.I thought I read somewhere that this tie in was changing.
Hi Richard, If you have signed a contract then I’m afraid you will be tied in for the 2 years.
Flogas just announced that my lpg going up by 8p pl from 1st October 2011.That makes it 57ppl!
Hi Guy, It’s now the time that all the LPG suppliers will start to contact their customers with regard to a “winter price increase”. I am expecting my supplier (Countrywide) to send the dreaded letter any day now, it will be interesting to see what the comparisons are.
Regards
Dickie
I am with Flogas as well and have just had the letter of price increase on 01/10/2011 by 6ppl plus Vat taking it to 58 ppl +vat. I am locked in until feb 2012 so cannot move at present. What interests me is where can one get an LPG supplier who does not require a contract? As they own the tanks we have our hands tied. I have thought of a syndicate but again if you are all tied in on contract you have no room to negotiate. thanks
Hi John, I think you may mind it difficult to find a supplier who will not tie you in to a contract. The only way I got round this was by finishing my term with Calor and then staying with them but “out of contract”; to be honest the prices were no different and of course Calor would no longer service check my tank. Once I moved across to Countrywide they then took over the ownership and the service of the tank.
Looking at the emails I am currently receiving about the Flogas rise, I see the lowest price quoted after the 6p rise has been 52ppl so you could try saying that you are aware of customers receiving LPG at 6p per litre lower than you. See email David Austen 09/09/2011.
Best regards
Dickie
Flogas up by 2p from 1st October to 59p per litre. They are offering 46p until March 31st for new contracts over 2 years.
Hi Tony,
The offer of “48 ppl until March the 31st over 2 years” is that fixed?
Regards – Dickie
LPG pricing is so cloak and dagger.
Why is there no legal requirement for LPG suppliers to publish their prices?
Extrafuel seem to be the only company to publish prices and give the same price to all customers.
Stu, Take a look at my website suppliers list page there are other companies who supply prices on their pages. Obviously they prefer you to ring them up so that they can do their sales pitch.
Regards
Dickie
If they publish prices on the web, then I can’t find them, and I have tried. I hate haggling on the phone. I hate haggling face to face. I think many people hate it too. The web has largely made it a thing of the past.
Maybe you could put direct links to each companies prices on your supplier page?
It seems http://www.cornwalllpg.co.uk/ and http://www.lpglancashire.co.uk/ and many more which do show prices are just other websites for Extragas. Interesting Lancashire it 3ppl cheap than Cornwall.
See this page … http://www.lpglancashire.co.uk/docs/35/cheap_lpg_by_county/ for all the websites Extragas has registered.
Hi, I’ve been using bulk LPG for the last 16 years but now I am threatened with non delivery due to the tank siting not conforming to current regs.
Firstly, this is anti-competitive as until the tank is resited no-one else will supply, but the tank was installed by the predecessors of the current company Flogas, who are party to the rewriting of the regs. It is likely that I will only be able to get supplies by bottles.
Who will pay for re-siting…if that is possible in my very small garden?
Perhaps with a 450ltr tank.
Secondly , has anyone got any good info on using an air source heat pump linked into the LPG fired boiler and hence current central heating system, presumably fed from bottled gas, as less would be needed.Would this be considered as a grant aidable system being only part ” green ”
Thirdly, how much is LPG anyway…in bulk or in bottles, it is all so vague .My prices have varied between an asking price of 70p last time and a delivery at 50p based on resigning a 2 year contract but only for the first 6 months of deliveries. Then the re-siting threat arrived!!!!
Tank is 1500 ltrs
Thanks in anticipation for any help.
A worried pensioner, John R
Hi John,
Firstly the re-siting, who is telling you that the tank has to be resited and for what reason?
Secondly, do you pay tank rental and to whom? If the answer is yes, I would get in touch with the supplier you pay the rent to and see what they have to say.
(Check your contract to see about tank responsilibilty and ownership). Normally the storage tank is the resposibility of the supplier in other words If the tank was initially and correctly installed by Flogas but then you changed contactors they should still be responsible for the tank.
I am not aware of any rule changes in the last 20 years regarding LPG storage tanks, however if a building or surroundings have changed that maybe a different matter, it may just be a case installing a firewall or removal of fencing/shrubbery or something similar.
The other advice I can give is to have a look at the Money Saving Site re LPGs and read up on the link I have highlighted. This is very useful information as given by the Health and Safety Executive and in particular -quote:
You should note however that if the tank is re-sited, whilst the LPG supplier will be responsible for the cost of this, it is likely the owner of the pipework (ie. the property owner) who will have to pay for the pipework to be re-sited to connect to the new tank. Any new pipework that is laid should also meet current standards, which is the use of plastic (polyethylene) pipework rather than a metal pipe.
But read the full detail in the link I have provided and remember the advice given is generic and you should contact your current supplier to discuss your particular issue.
Re your question regarding Air Source Heat pump I’m afraid I do not know but hopefully somebody reading this will be able to help.
Re Prices, as you are no doubt aware they vary a lot! From bulk gas at 40ppl to 70ppl, the general advice is to shop around and see what deals are to be had. If you don’t negotiate then you will never know, ring round and ask for current prices and deals.
Bottles prices vary on size/weight I recently bought a 25kg for £20, and 40Kg are around £40/45 per bottle.
I hope this helps in some way and please let me know how you get on.
Best Regards – Dickie
For pricecomparison purposes would be grateful for info on relationship
between lpg kg and litres please.
Hello all,
Very glad to read some consumer views on LPG suppliers. My tale of woe concerns Countrywide. Having been a loyal customer for more than a decade, we ran out of gas last week because their Signalman system failed (I checked it, & it was all plugged in with lights on so not sure why), called up Countrywide, explained situation & that I have an elderly father with heart failure. The lady on the phone simply said ‘sorry ‘zonal’ delivery to your area is Tuesdays i.e we would have to wait a whole week for a delivery. She did mention an ‘emergency service’ where they will come & decant 70 litres unfortunately not only do you pay for the gas but £360(!) call out fee. I told them as it was their equipment that had failed shouldnt they waive the callout fee. The answer was a simple no. So regardless of price we will not be using them in future.
Called up Calor & intend to switch to them. They offer £150 free gas & gas for 49.5ppl for 9 months. They also deliver 365 days a years. my question is does anyone have any other suppliers they can recommend before I go ahead and sign up?
Many thanks in advance for your help
Jonnie
