Up until July 2010 we paid £80 per month for Shellgas LPG. My relationship broke up and we cancelled the direct debit. In order to set up another direct debit I was told that I would have to pay £105. I phoned shell gaqs today to order a top up. I was told that my payments would now be £175 per month, and they then decided £157 per month. I knew gas prices had gone up, but 100% in 15 months? Apparently they work on 12 month reviews and because my review isn’t until November, they include the topups from this ctober and next October in order to work out how much I need to pay!! Is this right? And what can I do. I live on my ownnow and thought that my payments would be less!!

    Dear Dickie

Is there any comparison sites for lpg gas, when you go on most comparison sites there is nothing for lpg only standard gas. Please help CaLOR gas have been a nightmare for lst year increasing by 60% trying to tie us in on two year contract or prices go up again, we have a 76year old mum living with us and they have taken away the auto reader because I refused to go up to £160 per month on direct debit, I agreed to go from £120 to £140 which thought was reasonable as only currently owed £300 in august and we do not use any gas until Oct/Nov, is this right or ther people being treated the same shabbiness.

    regards
    Sharon

Hi Sharon, Sadly there is no comparison for LPG, that is why I started this blog so that members could pass information between each other to help wade through this enormous minefield!
Firstly I take it you are already in contract with Calor if so how much longer before your present contract runs out? Calor will only try to get you on a further contract if you are about to finish. Your offer seems fairly reasonable but without knowing your current contract position I cannot offer too much advice.
However if you current contract is about to finish then there are plenty of other suppliers out there who will offer far less than the bigger suppliers and it is worth shopping around to see what their current rates are. No supplier will have a (fixed) / standard rate. They are prepared to haggle but you must start the haggling otherwise they will just go with a set price.
Prices vary from 40p per litre right up to 75p per litre, so it is worth speaking to each supplier to see what you can get.
Remember though, they will entice you by a low introductory price, what you are more interested in is what they offer on the refil and the length of the contract, in other words try to get a fixed price for the length of the whole contract. It will not be as low as an introductory price but if it remains fixed for 2 yrs then you will have done well. LPG prices are certainly set to rise again in 2012.
Hope this is of some help, but please contact me should you reuire more information.
      Best Regards
      Dickie

    Hi Dickie
Great site and nice to see very useful information freely available. Would you consider adding LPG Home Heat (http://www.lpghomeheat.co.uk) to your list of suppliers above as we have found them reliable and professional.
    Thanks,
    James from Bulk Gas UK

i live on a parkhome site and we have flogas at the moment and pay 56p per ltr. they keep putting up the prices every year our last price rise was 8p ltr. we have been looking at changing to countrywide as they quoted a price of 42p per ltr. saying that it could go up if the price of oil went up or go down if the price of a barrel of oil goes down can any other people who have them say if this is true

    • January 31st, 2012 at 18:09 | #11

      Hi Marilyn,
Put it like this, I don’t know an LPG supplier who’s yet to drop their price.
      Does anybody else?

      Regards

we are with countrywide and find they are very unreliable. They promised to fill our tank a week ago, we are still waiting despite giving them three weeks notice. We have less than 5% and I find it very stressful particularly as we have elderly relatives coming to stay.

Hello Dickie, I’ve just come across your website, I wish I had before. I’m on Calor 47kg bottles (4) for the house and am interested in a bulk tank. In very cold weather the central heating — 10 rads — gollops it up and though I get a discount through my farmers’ buying group it’s a pain to keep having to change bottles. Also I should get it cheaper in bulk???
Question: I’d like to own my tank to avoid being tied in to one gas supplier. How do I go about buying one, i.e where? What are the regs on maintenance and testing?
I’m also interested in running farm vehicles — on farm only, no road use — on LPG. Can these (4-stroke, spark ignition) use domestic heating gas or is it different stuff? Am I able to install a liquid feed for this off the same tank that feeds the house? I believe such refuelling is done using a small electric pump. Are these available? (I’m guessing there are restrictions against people using it for road fuel which might make equipment hard to get?)
Hoping you can help. PS have signed the petition!

    • February 21st, 2012 at 09:19 | #15

      Hi Nick,
I been checking up on buying your own tank and it seems that it’s more hassle and potentially more cost than renting taking into account the maintenance you’d have to do on it and support arrangements needed – without this no-one will fill it up! If you check out my previous posts it gives details of tank site regulations or alternitavely check on the Calor site.Apologies I do not have any information regarding vehicles as I tend to just stick with central Heating but if you take a look at the Money Saving Experts website I’m sure there will be some information on there.
      Best regards – Dickie

    Hi,
I am thinking of changing my lpg supplier to either Extra Gas or Premier LPG. Has anybody had any dealings with either of these firms which might influence my decision one way or the other?
    Thanks,
    Clare

Hi I resigned with Premier last month. Happy with their deliveries, service, etc. and price has stayed competitive! NS

Pity you don’t do what you say ..came here to find the cheapest suppliers, you haven’t even bothered to post any prices, but have gone on about increases.. increased to what?
Who is cheapest why not stick to that, might be useful.

    Good list of websites though

    • April 17th, 2012 at 13:39 | #19

      Hi Rob,
Apologies, but this is an amateur site, I work full time and unfortunately do not have the time to be able to do the research in getting monthly prices all the time. But I do my best and put prices in when I can, as you are probably aware it is extremely difficult to get the suppliers to commit to a price and of course they do not like to give out the information especially if they know its me. If you look through the emails and post though, you will see what other users are paying and be able to compare prices.
Perhaps if you gave more detail as to what you were looking for I might be able to help, but if you are looking for website that has a general list of monthly prices you wont find one.
      Regards – Dickie

    Hi,
I have just arrived home to find a letter from FloGas announcing a 7ppl rise in the LPG price commencing 1st April 2012. The price is now 66ppl, is this a record or can anyone top this rediculous price?
Has anyone raised this matter with central government? LPG users have no opportunity of obtaining dual fuel discounts and in my view suffer an adverse penalty for living in an area where mains gas is not provided and as such we would appear to suffer at the hands of the supplier because where else can we go.
