A letter has Arrived from Calor
A big thank you for all your comments and it seems from your messages that Calor has been sending out their price increase letters!
Since I haven’t renewed my contract with Calor I thought I’d wait and see what was going to happen next. Sure enough today I received a letter with the first words being
” Economic uncertainty continues to have a servere effect on the prices of fuel and energy products and indeed on our own distribution costs. We have done everything we can to ensure the stability of our prices, however we now regrettably need to apply an increase”. The long of the short being they want to increase the price from 40 pence PL to 45.5 pence PL.
So I am going ot have a little chat with all the other LPG suppliers to see what I can get with some haggling and also talk to Calor and ask them what they thought of the BBC programme that was aired yesterday and see what they say when I tell them I am thinking of of having a chat to Mr Dominic Littlewood. I will also try the syndicate proposal to them to get an idea if they are at all interested.
Once I have some prices I will list them on the site.
5.5 pence per litre is a hell of a rise and there is no way I am going to sit back and let them just roll over me.
Incidentally I shall be writing to my newly elected Conservative MP to see what his thoughts are and also to see if he will team up with Geoffrey Cox the Devon MP who is supposedly raising the LPG issue in Parlament.
Watch this space!

I,too, have just had my letter regarding a 5.5p rise. This is the second increase within one year taking my price per litre to 47.90 that’s nearly a 25% rise! Talking to Calor earlier I have been advised that my contract has now been broken by them and I can change supplier. I was offered a £50 voucher. Easier said than done given the current lack of information available. I am, however, sending a letter to the Customer Operations Manager as advised and will await his response. In the meantime I will also be contacting my MP. Perhaps a petition should be set up on this site/Facebook so that the campaign to get a fairer deal for LPG users can gather momentum.

My rate has just been hiked by 5.5p/l from 42.4p to 47.9p
This is outrageous. 13% is absolutely not acceptable. I have a 2000 litre tank so that’s nearly £100 per fill.
If there is anybody out there living in Argyll wishing to form a syndicate or whatever, feel free to contact me for support.
I too shall be contacting my MP.
I really do feel pretty angry
Yep – utterly appalling – and (in a huge number of cases), in breach of contract and therefore un-enforceable. I have crossed swords with Calor over pricing in the past – with some success. I won’t repeat everything here (far too much to include), but over a period of months, I have distilled most of my experiences on the thread “LPG / LPG prices (merged)” on moneysavingexpert (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=319)
(O.T. I can’t find a contact for the site owner – could you drop me an email on the above address in regards to this post please. You’re not the only one who has had enough of this appalling situation and feels that it’s time to do something about it. Cheers)
My price was also increased by 5.5p a litre. The price increase letter was delivered in the same post as a letter thanking me for renewing my contract with Calor, they had offered me a price of 37.2p for a two year contract 6 weeks ago and I agreed a new contract with them last month.
This was after a discussion when I was told by Calor, after I had informed them that I had been given a price of 35p per litre by another national supplier, the Calor rep stated that the other supplier would then impose a price increase after the first fill up of the tank, I said that this seemed very underhand, with which the Calor rep agreed and this was one of the reasons I agreed to stay with Calor at their somewhat higher price.
Seems a tad underhand to me!
This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I enjoy seeing websites that understand the value of providing a prime resource for free. I truly loved reading your post. Thanks!
Like a number of previous posts I am also with Calor.
I am currently paying 51.4ppl plus VAT,
I pay £35 per quarter standing charge for the tank.
Delivery takes up to 12 working days (in the current bad weather)
The telephonists at the depot in Ellesmere Port and very rude and unhelpful.
My contract has run out so I am free to move.
I live near Caernarfon, North Wales.
Any comments anybody ??
I live in a Park home in Lanarkshire and currently pay 55.4 pence per litre which is way above any of the prices paid by the Winkleigh residents and on top of that I pay a daily charge of 16.44 pence per day for the use of their tank!!!! Are there any others getting screwed like me????? Any body in my area care to take up the cudgel and approach Calor??
I am with BT and the price has again been hiked up. Does anyone out there pay £195 per month for LPG like I do?
I want to find a cheaper supplier – do you know of one?
Hi Patricia, I’m not familiar with BT do you mean BP? The price sounds astronomically high normally it is charged by the litre.
You need to give me more information and I will be happy to advise.

Hi, I am just looking for some advice. I feel I am getting stitched up by Calor! Paying 51.9 per ltr + VAT! Pay £145 per month. Just had a speculative quote from LPG Homeheat offering 42p inclusive of VAT! I’m due to to cease contract with Calor next April. I have read somewhere recently about early termination of contracts if and quote “Check Clause 6.2 of your contract – unless you have a VERY strange Calor contract, this will almost cretainly say that if the price increases by more than 3.5ppl in any THREE month period, you have the right to cancel ther contract, but you must inform them of your intention to cancel within (if memory serves) three weeks of notification of price increase” can anybody tell me if this is correct???
Andrew, I would check you contract with Calor, see if “clause 6.2″ is included. Even if not I would still contact Calor to discuss the situation, if you feel you are struggling with payments it would be in their interest to help you. Last out the 6 months and then shop around for a better deal.
Regards
